St Paul City Guide
St. Paul, Minnesota (also Saint Paul) is the state capital and shares the “Twin Cities” moniker with Minneapolis, which is about 12 miles west. In 1841 it was named after Father Lucien Galtier’s favorite saint, Paul the Apostle. It has a population of 297,640, making it the 2nd largest city in Minnesota, and a continental climate that basically means two seasons: cold, snowy winters and hot, humid summers. Fun fact: the coldest temperature on record was in 1988 when the thermometer plummeted to 41 °F.
To make the winter more pleasant, residents enjoy the annual Saint Paul Winter Carnival (which was created after a reporter referred to this town as “another Serbia”), a festive event with ice sculpting, a treasure hunt, bobsledding, and ice horse-racing. And every three or four years, the town builds an incredible ice palace, totaling 36 palaces since 1886.
Rather than clutter up your house, the perfect solution for all your storage needs during the off-season is a handy, local self storage unit!
If the harsh weather, proximity to Canada, and endless cornfields don’t bother you, you’ll fit in just fine in St. Paul, Minnesota. Plus, it’s known as a very literate community where people still subscribe to newspapers! You may enjoy the Science Museum of Minnesota, which focuses on technology, natural history, and mathematics, or the Como Zoo and Conservatory, which is free to enter and includes an amusement park, golf course, and conservatory.
When you need to come in out of the cold, a cozy coffee shop is always a nice choice, and here in St. Paul, you’ll find more Caribou Coffee shops than Starbucks. For a tasty meal out, try Joan’s in the Park, Cossetta’s, or Cheng Heng. Let your hair down (or take off your wool hat) and enjoy some of St. Paul’s nightlife: Minnesota Music Café is a hip bar with live music and dancing, The Happy Gnome boasts 400 beers and 300 types of whiskey, and The Artist’s Quarter is the go-to place for live jazz.
If you live in St. Paul, you’ll soon find that regular closets won’t fit all your winter wear—parkas, snow pants, lined boots, long johns, scarves, ski masks, gloves—so it makes sense to rent a unit at a nearby self storage facility!
It’s important to be familiar with the surrounding area around a storage facility and the additional services available to assist you either moving into or out of a self storage unit.
